Workshop “The body and technology in the migration process”
On Saturday 22 October 2022 at the Instituto Cervantes, “The Body and Technology in the Migration Process” workshop took place.
The aim of this workshop was to open up a space for reflection on migration and the impact of technologies on the migration process, but incorporating our bodies into the reflection.
Think about how technologies are used today for the traceability of individuals, such as biometrics, where the data stored in the biometric passport is data relating to physical, body or behavioural appearance that ensures unique identification. Biometric passports contain RFID chips, which are stickers containing antennas that allow them to receive and respond to radio frequency requests from an RFID transmitter.
Traceability has gone from being the ability to follow a product through the chain to being used to track the movements of people.
And all this data is stored, but we never know exactly where and if confidentiality is guaranteed, which is essential in migration processes.
In order to carry out the reflection we counted on the participation of artists from multiple disciplines as well as cultural agents and migrants from Boza Fii, which was an enriching exchange and learning experience for all.
Many thanks to Fatou Cissé and Alex for their collaboration in the realisation of this workshop.
