“La ville en mouv’ment” Performative meetings 4th edition (2023)

“La Ville en Mouv’ment” is a series of interdisciplinary collaborations between Senegalese and international artists to bring contemporary performance art to public spaces, during intensive one- to two-week programmes in Dakar and its suburbs.

Many artists have always expressed themselves through investigations as well as concrete actions in response to emergencies.

This programme, which has been running for 4 years, will invite performance artists from the visual and performing arts to work together for 2 weeks. They will recycle, transform and fit out, proposing installations in working-class neighbourhoods.

Street art uses an artistic and social approach to give new impetus to certain areas of the city. Arts that take over the spaces where social relations and exchanges are formed every day. Different concepts will be addressed́ by seven teams of artists (7 projects). During the first three editions, the streets became backdrops for open-air performances and multidisciplinary installations that galvanised an impromptu and unsuspecting public. An avant-garde aesthetic combined with references to everyday activities strategically engaged the audience, leading to in-depth conversations, reflection and increased appreciation by people who had no previous exposure to contemporary performance.

This year we attended the meetings, here is a video summary.
